Cricket Against COVID-19

When the pandemic closed the parks, we kept cricket and community alive — safely and outdoors.

When the pandemic shut down school, sport and social life, CKC refused to let the ball stop rolling. We adapted overnight — taking sessions outdoors, running social-distanced coaching and keeping families connected when isolation bit hardest. The project was about more than fitness. It was about routine, belonging and hope for the children who lost the most. Cricket vs COVID-19 proved that even in the hardest summer, the club finds a way to play.

CKC World Cricket Tour 2020

On 31st May 2020, we were delighted to bring our #CricketAgainstCovid campaign to an exciting end with an online worldwide celebration with over 109 groups joining our Zoom event. Those attending included children, adults (including professional players and journalists) and families across the World – in total, nearly 500 people took part in the campaign and this could be one of the largest online cricket events to date!

Preceding the celebration, we united people from around the Globe with our month long attempt to make a ball virtually travel the World (see video below) and managed to “visit” countries including USA, South Africa, refugee children in Lebanon, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Italy, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Sweden and more.

#CricketAgainstCovid has highlighted cricket’s power to unite people regardless of their background and where they are in the World. A full video of the celebration will be launched soon and you’ll see the World beat Covid-19 by taking 20 catches together!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff who helped to put this together over the last month and an especially big thank you to everyone who took part and made this such a special event – thank you!!!

The parks shut, but the club never closed.
